Spend a day exploring Bergamo Lotto-style. Start with a visit to the Basilica of St. Maria Maggiore. Here, admire the inlaid wood panels on the iconostasis and inside the choir, crafted by Bergamo’s inlayer Giovanni Francesco Capoferri, designed by Lorenzo Lotto, using over 100 different types of wood chosen for color, grain, and light response: the 76 subjects narrate events from the Old and New Testaments. Continue the visit on Via Porta Dipinta where, in the church of San Michele al Pozzo Bianco of Lombard origin, next to the presbytery, you will find Lotto’s frescoes dedicated to episodes of the Virgin (1525).
Free lunch.
In the afternoon, continue the guided tour in Lower Bergamo. Moving through Borgo Pignolo, you reach the church of San Bernardino where the best work of the Venetian painter Lotto, an altarpiece with Madonna and Saints dated 1521, is preserved. Finally, in the heart of Lower Bergamo, inside the church of San Bartolomeo, admire an altarpiece Madonna and Saints from 1516, also by Lotto.
Morning dedicated to the guided tour of Accademia Carrara. Over three hundred works, including paintings and sculptures, outline the exhibition route of Accademia Carrara and offer a journey through five centuries of Italian art history from the Renaissance to the nineteenth century, among masterpieces and collecting. Founded in 1796 by Giacomo Carrara, the Accademia Carrara is considered the museum of Italian collecting because its collections are entirely based on bequests from enlightened patrons who wanted to enhance its heritage by making it available to the city and the community.
Free lunch
Afternoon dedicated to the guided tour of Upper City. Enjoy a walk through the fascinating streets: Piazza Vecchia with the Palace of Reason, the Civic Tower, known as “il Campanone”, the old town hall, today the site of the library.

In the afternoon, enter with a guided tour to Palazzo and Giardini Moroni. Seventeenth-century palace that preserves decorated interiors, furnished and a rich art collection, as well as an Italian garden and a vast vegetable garden that make up a picturesque historical park in the heart of Upper City.
At the end of the visit, enjoy a snack at a historic pastry shop to taste three typical desserts (polentina mignon, a sample of Torta Donizetti, Stracciatella ice cream cup) accompanied by a hot beverage.
Comfortably seated aboard a tuk tuk, start a tour along the hills of Bergamo. Travel along ancient roads bordered by low walls, with breathtaking views over a green expanse of hills embracing Bergamo, reaching the Monastery of Astino.
A magical and timeless place, nestled in the biodiversity valley among vineyards, flax fields, and orchards. The tour will take you back to the streets of the historic center of Upper City up to Piazza Vecchia and the Cathedral where it will end.
An unusual visit to Bergamo awaits you…an evening tour to places off the common routes!
The surprise, besides the views and belvederes, is that among the thousand deviations special entries can be added, thanks to the precious collaboration of parish priests and parishioners: an example above all is being able to cross the threshold of a large baroque church with inside the baptismal font, which bathed the heads of illustrious Bergamaschi including Gaetano Donizetti, Antonio Locatelli, and Vincenzo Bonomini; of the latter, the famous “macabre paintings” are preserved, namely 6 vertical canvases, suspended in the new apsidal choir of the Church of Santa Grata Inter Vites which overlooks the valley, whose story and meaning are truly unique in their kind.
But another surprise this sacred building holds is the grotesques painted in the sixteenth century by Giovanni Battista Guarinoni d’Averara, perfectly preserved and enjoyable with a guided tour in the ancient sixteenth-century sacristy.
E-bike tour accompanied by a cycling guide.
